Light in Space:KIMU x UUU Design

UUU design is an international interior design firm based in Taipei and Seoul. In this beautiful resident project, UUU chooses KIMU lighting to enhance its beauty. Here’s the conversation between us talking about light and space:

Q: What is the most essential part when you see a space?

A: “Proportion” is definitely the most important when we are considering a space. Different textures can have a major impact on the mood of a room once they are well proportioned. How to allocate the size of each part in a space is also the key factor to create a cozy living space.

Q: What does lighting mean to you?

A: Good lighting is one of the most important elements in a space though it is frequently overlooked. Lighting itself is changeable and can create different moods and new possibilities to a space.

Q: Why did you choose Nigiri Floor Lamp to decorate this area?

A: Considering this area from a vertical perspective, we used the red venetian blinds and the linear twisted pendant to create an eye-catching design in the middle level (eye level).

So I needed to take it down a notch by using ambient lighting in the lower level. What if I take user experience into consideration? When the clients are back home, they can casually sit on the floor, leaning on the sofa to enjoy a quality time. KIMU’s Nigiri Floor Lamp, its soft beam of light radiated from the paper lantern gives the space a warm, relaxing tone, is just the perfect solution to the picture in my mind.

Q: How does the Screen Light work in this corner?

A: What I appreciate the most is its special, indirect ray of light that, when projected to a plain wall, gives the space an unique and serene ambience. When I was doing the lighting plan for the floyer that should have a relaxed and welcoming feel, the Screen Light was the first choice that crossed my mind.

Q: Any interesting behind-the-scenes stories of this project?

A: Throwback to the time when we discussed the overall color tone, the hostess and host both had their own preference and no one wanted to compromise. Finally they gave me a task that they wanted to have a warm color toned living room and a cool color toned master bedroom. Every client has their own way of interaction and discussion that resulted in a totally different solution. It’s also very challenging for the designer to handle and to converge every idea into a cohesive design style.
