The Poetry of Light and Time

KIMU: Illuminating Time with Light

Inspired by Asian culture, philosophy, and lifestyle, KIMU reinterprets tradition through the lens of contemporary Western aesthetics—transforming everyday objects into poetic and warm presences. We believe design is not only about form and function, but also about how we live with time.

Light, for us, is more than illumination; it is a witness to time and a vessel for emotion. Our work captures the rhythms and scales of life inherited from the past, allowing each lamp to carry time within it—quietly glowing in the everyday, inviting deeper connections to memory, feeling, and the present moment.

Traces of Time and Light at Kishu An

Time is nostalgia for the past, awareness of the present, and curiosity for the future.

This time, we step into Kishu An—a century-old house in Taipei that bears witness to layers of urban memory and the passage of eras. Its quiet presence resonates with the story we wish to tell: how light and time intersect within a space, transforming into perception and memory.

Fusion, Stillness, Dialogue

At Kishu An—a space marked by the traces of time—we invited KIMU’s classic designs into conversation with the century-old architecture: The New Old Collection, Paper Milk, and Nigiri Floor Lamp.

The New Old light blends the softness of traditional Asian paper lanterns with the structure of Western industrial design, symbolizing cultural fusion. It resonates with Kishu An’s unique identity as a hybrid of Japanese and Western architecture. The Paper Milk Lamp, light as a drifting cloud, hangs in the tall ceiling space, where daylight and the lamp’s soft paper glow blend together, tracing the flow of time. The Nigiri Floor Lamp rests quietly in a corner—like a light tucked away in the heart—gently casting warmth from the ground up.

Through these pieces, we seek to capture the subtle textures of light and the warmth of passing time. Letting light, space, memory, and perception merge naturally to create a moment of stillness and poetry.
